How do I join the Lab?

Simples. Visit our member page, choose the one that best suits your need and email the team.


Can I 3D print my designs in the Lab

Yes, as a Member of the Fab Lab you have access to all of our 3D printers providing you have completed our basic machine safety induction. You’ll need to bring your own PLA, unless you want use the lab stock at cost. If you’re not a Fab Lab member you can print your designs using our 3D Hub www.3dhubs.com


Is the Fab Lab open at weekends?

We are only open Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm. We occasionally open at weekends for special events.


Do you provide free access?

We don’t offer free access to the lab at the moment, we have plan to open on the last Friday of every month starting in January 2017 and provide four unique classes for you to learn about laser cutting, soldering, 3D design and textiles.


How much does is cost to 3D print something?

How long is a piece of string? A frequent question from makers – it depends on the size of the model and how much material we use to print it. The quickest way to find out how much something might cost – run the file through our 3D Hub www.3dhubs.com.


What can I make at the Fab Lab?

Wow. We have a Trotec laser cutter, lots of 3D Printers, electronics bench, textiles and embroidery lab, toolshed, small CNC, large CNC, lathe, drill pillar, a shed full of hand tools, lots of electronics, heaps of materials and oodles of ideas. You can make almost anything!


Can I hire the Fab Lab for a corporate event

Yes, we have a 100sq.m event space with full AV, WiFi and sound system. We can provide our space as a blank canvas, or we are very happy to create an experience for you using all the machines in the lab. Find out more www.fablablondon.org/yourevent.


Can you make something for me?

Yes, we can make almost anything in the Fab Lab. We have a highly skilled team of designers, electronics engineers, artists, software engineers and makers in the lab. We work on commissioned projects from companies, agencies and product business. We help startups build their ideas into working prototypes and have a network of contacts to manufacture at scale. Can I buy materials from Fab Lab for use on the laser

Yes, we buy directly from our laser supplier to ensure the materials are safe to cut and etch. We are able to order plywood (3mm and 6mm), a range of acrylics (2mm, 3mm, 5mm, 8mm) and specialist laser friendly materials. We can order materials for you, but you will have to pay for shipment if they are no part of our monthly materials order. Our material guide can be download here.


Can I cut PVC or Vinyl on the laser cutter

No, these materials create toxic gases and are highly dangerous. Anyone found using the laser with these materials will be warned and prevented from using the laser.
